I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles county. Besides the Hollywood sign or Walk of Fame, there's a lot more to Los Angeles and movie culture, and a lot of it lies in the barren and western landscape of the hills that surround the city. I grew up in an area like that, and there was actually a lot of filming around my hometown. There was a hiking area in particular that was actually used for all the old westerns because of its impeccable old western looks, but it also was one of my favorite places to go hiking as a kid. It wasn't foresty or trails, but instead it was dispersed rocks you could climb. They were huge, and they made you feel like you were on a different planet.
